Job Description

Cooperative: Mohave Electric Cooperative

Mohave Electric Cooperative (“MEC”), located in Bullhead City, Arizona, is seeking to hire an innovative and community-focused Chief Executive Officer. MEC’s Chief Executive Officer will report to a 9-person Board of Directors and will be responsible for establishing MEC’s overall business strategy, which includes issues relating to power supply and community engagement. MEC’s Chief Executive Officer will provide vision, advice, and recommendations to MEC’s Board of Directors concerning industry changes, strategic planning, business objectives, and policy needs, all of which are aimed at supporting the success of MEC’s membership.

MEC is an electric distribution cooperative that provides utility and broadband services to members located in Bullhead City, Kingman, and the surrounding areas in northern Arizona. MEC currently serves approximately 40,000 members in an approximately 1,500-mile geographic region.

MEC’s Board of Directors seeks to hire an individual with the following qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education;
  • at least 10 years of administrative, management, and/or supervisory experience;
  • at least 5 years working with a rural electric cooperative or in the electric utility industry; and
  • experience in supervising people, planning and developing work programs, presenting reports, and organizing and coordinating operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • working knowledge of the cooperative philosophy; and
  • working knowledge of how rural electric utilities function, including financial practices, rate design, safety standards, power supply operations, and member expectations and service needs.

MEC’s Chief Executive Officer will be tasked with embracing MEC’s member-first philosophy, cooperative values, and community focus. This is not a remote position – MEC’s Board of Directors expects its Chief Executive Officer to become a part of and participate in the affairs of the community, including, without limitation, becoming a member of the Cooperative.

If you have interest in applying to be the next Chief Executive Officer of MEC and meet the general requirements noted above, please contact MEC’s Manager of Human Resources, Rick Hernandez, at (928) 758-0285 or email your resume to humanresources@mohaveelectric.com.

Professional references will be requested later for applicants who progress. Finalists will undergo a comprehensive background check and the selected candidate must also pass a pre-employment drug test.

MEC is an equal-opportunity employer.
